- One of the best things that comes with being a student has to be the perk of getting student discount! Nowadays, more and more shops offer this as a way to help students out, especially as it tends to be students that shop the most. Even though we shouldn’t, as soon as that student loan lands in our bank accounts we rush to the nearest shopping centre. We are all guilty of this.
So, who offers the best student deals?
Most retail shops such as Office, Topshop, Urban Outfitters etc offer 10%. However, Vans are more generous and offer 15%, while River Island doesn’t even offer student discount, but every now and then they give 20% off to students for a limited amount of time.
In my opinion, the best student discount comes from the Apple store as it offers 15% off of the price of a new Mac and up to 5% off of all iPads. When going to university, every student wants a new laptop or tablet to do their work on and 15% is quite a bit of discount.
Entertainment wise, most cinemas offer student priced tickets making that ticket that little bit cheaper. Regarding food, Pizza Hut gives 20% off and Dominoes gives 25% off when you spend £25, which comes in handy when you cannot be bothered or have the time to cook. However, my favourite has to be McDonalds’ deal of a free hamburger, cheeseburger or McFlurry when you buy a meal.
Being a student you can also get deals with travel, TFL offers a university oyster card so that you can get 30% discount off of travel. If you live far from university and will travel home, you are eligible for a 16-25 railcard that gives an annual saving of £161, so is well worth the investment.
All of these deals are only valid if you have a student card, so make sure you keep it in a safe place as you are going to need it.
Also, don’t be scared to ask at the till if a place offers student discount. Many shops do not advertise it so there is no harm in asking - after all every penny matters when you’re a student.
